March Round Up

Another month gone can only mean one thing: it's time for Be The Change's March round-up! It's been an incredibly busy and exciting time for our lovely society, from speaker events to the Eden Project to a VERY special award. So, keep reading to see what we got up to...

3rd - Sustainable Sundays: People In The Climate Movement That We Find Inspiring

First up, we had a lovely time creating another post in our Sustainable Sundays series. Click here to see our post on our Instagram!

11th - What the Shell are we going to do?

Exeter Guild ran an exciting introduction into the relaunch of the Shell Out campaign, which aims to draw attention to Exeter's involvement with fossil fuel company Shell. Click here to read more and get involved!

17th - Sustainable Sundays: Critically Engaging With Climate Discourse

For our final Sustainable Sundays of the term, we worked on creating a resource to help navigate the world of climate! Take a look to see our tips.

18th - Blutopia Screening

We launched our very exciting Speaker Series, named Microplastics: The Breakdown, with a screening of the documentary Blutopia. Collaborating with French Soc, the documentary discusses climate and the oceans, as well as providing potential solutions.

20th - An Introduction to Plastic and Waste Management

To continue our speaker series, we had a brilliant talk with Devon County Council about how best to deal with waste on a local scale, as well as question the role of the waste industry in tackling climate change. Thanks to all those who attended!

22nd - Eden Project Trip

A group of Be The Changers headed to the amazing Eden Project in Cornwall for a trip run by the Guild. Baz had a particularly fun time exploring the wonderful exhibits.

25th - Microplastics and Ocean Health

The final event of our speaker series was a talk with Ocean Generation, which ran alongside Biosoc. At the forefront of tackling the impact of microplastics in our oceans, Ocean Generation discussed the innovations which can help be a part of the solution.

27th - The Guild Awards

Myself (Emily), Becky, Freya, Isabella and Han attended The Guild Awards on the 27th to celebrate the amazing societies in Exeter that have gone above and beyond. We were honoured to have been nominated twice within the Sustainability category: for Sustainable Sundays and Microplastics: Let's End The Cycle! And WE WON! We are so grateful for the recognition and hope that we continue the brilliant work that we do in the future.

Wow, what a phenomenal way to end the second term of the year. We'll be back with more exciting activities in the summer. But for now, have a lovely Easter and good luck with any assignments.

Love, Emily and Team Be The Change x
