November Round Up

Hello everyone! Somehow it is now December, which seems slightly terrifying but also undeniably exciting. Here at Be The Change we have had yet another super busy month full of green activities - and we even have a new committee member! So, without further ado, it's time for the November round-up.

5th November - Sustainable Sundays: Black Friday Edition

For our first Sustainable Sundays of the month, it seemed only right to tackle the huge subject of Black Friday Week. Looming near the end of November, Black Friday Week encourages mass consumption, with many of these purchased items ending up in landfills. We considered the alternatives to Black Friday, and provided some no-judgement tips on how to consume slowly. Thanks to everyone who came along to help us put the following post together!

9th November - Pub Quiz with Exeter Sustainability Board

We co-hosted a quiz with @exeterstudentsustainabilityboard

at The Ram on campus. Loads of fun was had despite the chilly temperatures.

16th November - Jewellery Making Workshop with @bunyipcraft

We had an amazing time jewellery making with the lovely Mattie, owner of Bunyip Craft in Fore Street. We were taught how to make bracelets and necklaces with a huge collection of beads to choose from!

19th November - Sustainable Sundays: Introducing... Baz!

Our newest member of the team is non other than our wonderful mascot Baz. A keystone animal in the UK, Baz and his friends are great at creating natural dams. Keep an eye on our social media for Baz's adventures.

Beaver Change... get it?

21st November - Climate Wall

A group of committee members headed to the Climate Wall, which was being projected at the Forum on the Streatham Campus. The wall was also presented at St Luke's too, and gave students a chance to make their voices heard about all things green around campus and the local area.

22nd November - Our Campaign Launch

Introducing our 🫧CAMPAIGN LAUNCH!🫧

Our wonderful Campaigns Officer Han has been hard at work creating our latest campaign, entitled ‘Microplastics - Let’s End The Cycle’. Keep an eye on our socials and this blog for more information on this campaign, and let us know your thoughts!

25th November - Baz's Big Day Out!

For Baz's first Instagram takeover, I took him to London! Cheering on Exeter University Cycling Club's immense Movember Mission: a 340km cycle from Exeter to Movember HQ in London. Baz got to see all of the sights, plus give loads of different public transport methods a try. He was a very tired mascot at the end of the day, but he thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

28th November -Vintage Sale with @aurorathehoarder

A big shout out must go to our wonderful Social Sec, Freya. Organising a super successful vintage sale, courtesy of Aurora the Hoarder. There was even a giveaway! We hope that you loved all of the funky pieces on offer in the Lemon Grove, and hope to run a similar event again!

30th November -Reclaim the Night

To finish off November, a group of us joined fellow students and locals on a walk across the city demanding safer streets for women. Baz got involved too and even had a placard of his own! To learn more about Reclaim The Night, see here and also the brilliant Angel Society Instagram!

Wow! What an action-packed November. As we head into the holidays soon and term comes to an end, we wanted to say a huge thank you for such a successful few months. We have loved meeting so many new (and old) faces, and hope to see many of you again in January.

All the very best. Love,

Team Be The Change x
